PCA Updates
Positive Coaching Alliance - Tampa Bay, the local chapter of the national non-profit Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), has named forty-nine (49) local high school student-athletes from the senior class of 2023 as finalists for its Triple-Impact Competitor® Scholarship Awards.
“These awards provide us a way to give back and to recognize students who are strong examples of the benefits that sports can have,” said Mason Brady, Executive Director of the local chapter. “The students stand out for their character and the effort they put in both on and off the field.”
Finalists were selected based on their application which included short essay responses and selected references noting how applicants strive to improve and develop themselves, their teammates, and the sport itself. Scholarship finalists will receive multiple opportunities to meet and connect with each other through various events supported by the Tampa Bay Rays and the Tampa Bay Lightning. During the scholarship program, PCA’s mentors provide guidance and advice on how to be an effective leader during one’s senior year of high school and how to use what they’ve learned from sports as they make the transition to college.
“We have always wanted to offer more than just a financial scholarship,” said Nick Hess, PCA -Tampa Bay Board member and Mentor Chair. “We surround our finalists with mentors who use the life lessons gained from their high school, college, or professional playing days to foster a point of connection that will create a resource for our finalists as they move on to college and life after.”
Up to twenty-five (25) winners will be selected later this fall as recipients of the scholarship award and each will receive $2,000 towards college expenses.
