Triple-Impact Competitor® Finalist, Class of 2016
H.B. Plant High School
Tampa, FL
Emily Evangelista from H.B. Plant High School is involved in cross-country, soccer, and track and field. She recognizes the sacrifice and discipline needed to perform at a high level. “You need to be conscious of the things you put in your body, as it is a highly- functioning machine and you already push it to the breaking point while training. You need to surrender parties, friends’ birthdays and relaxing weekends in lieu of fitness sessions and tournaments. It may seem like a lot to give up for a sport, but when you really love something, and are committed to your improvement, you would relinquish that, and so much more.”
Emily’s teammate sees her leadership in her actions as she sets the tone for the younger players. “Emily is currently a captain on her team and always helps to motivate the other players. She sets a great example by being a team leader, playing through injuries, and never missing any team events. Emily puts the team’s needs before her own needs and I have witnessed this many times. Emily also serves as a mentor to several of the younger girls’ soccer teams in our club. She comes to practice several times per month for the younger teams and this really helps to motivate these girls to continue to improve their skills and be the best they can be. Emily honors the game of soccer by being a true competitor, studying the game, and doing whatever necessary to lead her team to be as competitive as possible.”
